Vittoria makes eco-friendly cycling easier with Carbon Footprint analysis for tires

As a cyclist, you can now make more environmentally conscious purchases thanks to Vittoria's new carbon footprint analysis for the entire tire selection. Vittoria now indicates the carbon footprint of each tire directly through the website, empowering you to make greener choices.

After two years of development with Deloitte, Vittoria has introduced a comprehensive tool based on the UNI EN ISO 14067:2018 Systematic Approach. Externally certified by Bureau Veritas in June 2024, this tool provides you with detailed data on the CO2 emissions produced during the lifecycle of each tire, giving you the transparency needed to make informed, eco-friendly decisions.

A Systematic Approach to Carbon Footprint Analysis

The UNI EN ISO 14067:2018 with the Systematic Approach was chosen as it is the reference standard for carbon footprint measurements which ensures a consistent and thorough analysis across all product lines.

Lifecycle Stages Considered

Vittoria’s carbon footprint calculation methodology employs a cradle-to-grave approach, encompassing the following stages of a tire’s lifecycle:

  1. Upstream Production and Transportation: This stage considers the sourcing and transportation of raw materials, with emission data derived from industry averages available from official databases such as Ecoinvent.
  1. Core Process: This involves the primary production processes occurring in Vittoria Tyres' Thailand plants, with site-specific data.
  1. Distribution: This stage includes logistics from Vittoria Tyres Thailand's facility to regional warehouses and further to end customer markets in America, Asia, and Europe.
  1. End of Life: This final stage assesses the impact of tire disposal, considering regional trends in energy recovery, landfill, and recycling.

With this approach Vittoria tires release an average of 6.5 kg CO2eq throughout their life cycle. To put this information into perspective, you could offset this impact by cycling approximately 68 km instead of using a car.

We invite you to use these values to compare products within our own offering. Due to the lack of common metrics and data sources, comparing our products with those outside of Vittoria’s range may lead to misleading conclusions.

This pioneering effort underscores Vittoria’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability. Vittoria continues to innovate and embrace practices that not only elevate the performance of its products but also contribute positively to the planet.
